The average age of consumer vehicles on the road today has risen over the last few decades as more motorists are choosing to keep their vehicle longer. According to a poll by market research company IHS Markit, the average age of consumer vehicles on the road was 11.6 years in 2016. This number is up from 11.5 years in 2015.
So why are motorists keeping their vehicles longer? Over the last few decades, the vehicles have been built to be more reliable, and the quality is continuously improving. More motorists are waiting longer before trading-up to a new vehicle. Drivers are also financially motivated to keep their old car running. New car prices have increased and motorists are more content with saving some dough by driving a fully operational vehicle, especially if they have already paid the vehicle off.
While the age of vehicles on the roads is rising, this proves to be an excellent opportunity for independent Land Rover repair and service shops, to keep these vehicles in tip-top shape. This benefits mom and pop and small independent Land Rover service facilities because more vehicles are going to be needing maintenance and repair as they age.
