Pack your bags and head out on the highway this summer! Whether you’re road trippin’ to grandma’s house, the beach, to the mountains or across country, be sure to have some safety essentials in your vehicle for comfort, and in case of an emergency.
First Aid Kit: Keep one of these stocked with band-aids, adhesive tape, gauze pads, aspirin, antiseptic wipes and first aid antibiotic cream.
Flares/Triangles: Breakdowns and accidents can cause hazards on the roadway. Be sure to have flares and reflective warning triangles to alert drivers of an emergency, distress or an inoperable vehicle, and a potentially dangerous situation.
Multi-Purpose Tool: Having an all-in-1 tool with pliers, scissors, knives, a wire cutter and more, is handy to have all the time, and not just for roadside emergencies.
Portable Jumper and Cell Charger: Don’t get stuck with a dead car battery or no cell charge in case you need to call for help.
Spare Tire: You never know when a flat tire is going to ruin your day, so be sure that you have one available that is properly inflated, or be sure your vehicle is equipped with a tire inflator kit, or run-flat tires.
Water: Stay hydrated on the road—while driving or in case you break down on the side, until help arrives. Increasing temperatures of summer can cause dehydration, especially if you’re physically active. Headaches and dizziness are signs of dehydration. Get some water stat!
Window Sun Shade: Block the sun’s harmful rays and reduce your vehicle’s interior temperature with a sun shade if you stop for lunch en route to your destination, or have to park outside in the direct sun once you get there.
